I see state employees driving BMW sport cars this is awaste of tax-payers money what do you think?

The vehicles were confiscated in criminal investigation and the state use them instead of buying other vehicles .this policy has been in effect for ten years.

Can you prove they are government issued?…

If they are personal cars that they bought, it is a waste of their own money.

I guess it depends on who paid for them.

my favorite is our towns fire chief gets a ford expedition to drive, even in his private off hours time, you know we are paying for the gas.

A car is designed to get you from point A to point B, if it is a sports car or SUV not only is it wasting tax money, it is driving up the price of gas for all of us.

With all the traffic and speed limits in US, how can anyone justify owning a sports car?

If it is their own BMW, why is it your business? People do what they want with their money and credit.

Our fire chief also drives a Ford Expedition which he uses in his off hours. However, he pays for half the gas whether it was personal or department related, but he can’t take it outside of 3 counties unless it is dept. business. That arrangement works because he doesn’t have to waste everybody’s time documenting every danged mile.

They are paid extremely well. I guess what they want to do with their own money is there business. If the state wanted to lower the salaries that would probably be a good idea. However, you never know. The spouce of the BMW driver might have a great job, the car could be finaniced for 10 years or the person could have a rich uncle. You just never know until you see the person’s bank book.

No it is not. You could pay state employees the average salary and give them a cheap car but then they would not attract the high calibre workers needed to run government institutions. In the long run it is better to pay state employees the same as the private sector.

Do you mean these are Govt owned BMW sports cars? Or just cars that employees bought for themselves? If they bought the car themselves, then where is the waste? If the cars are owned by the govt, then yes it seems wasteful unless they got them really cheap.

It’s unfair to conclude that they are earning too much simply based on what vehicle they drive. You might want to evaluate their occupation, and how they have allocated their salaries. Perhaps the individual chose to live in a frugal shack and instead put all the hard-earned cash in a BMW?

In a free enterprise capitalist nation, salary should be automatically adjusted based on the simply theory of supply and demand. If the salary is less, would there be qualified people who would take the job or would the candidate be seeking a different career otherwise?

If after considering all factors and it can be determined that they are indeed overpaid, the effective way to pose changes is to gather support and speak to your state representative.
