I’m sick of all the talk about the lambos the farrari’s and porsches. . The new 2007 supersnake shelby with 725Hp,Chevorlet corvette SS with 650hp and the dodge viper with 600Hp all stock baby. I think these cars will make a difference
There’s always critics for everything, no matter what it is. You also forgot the Ford GT with 550 hp and can clear 1/4 of a mile in 11 seconds. Even normal every day family cars like the Ford Taurus, which has 263 hp, are getting sportier. The 2008 Lincoln MKS which is coming out this fall is going to have 315 hp which will smoke a lexus or BMW any day. The 2008 Navigator is also getting an upgrade to 420 hp which smokes the Escalade by 17 hp! I’m not sure about the 2009 Chevy Camaro and Dodge Challenger, but they are supposed to have loads of hp that will smoke any foreign vehicle out there. Also, I think any American sports car can still smoke lambo’s and ferraris because American cars have speed, but can also handle a lot better than super fast euro cars.
It is still not much in the world of sport cars.

well the corvette and the viper have always been fast. i think some american companies need to build cars with rear mounted engines. and find a way to do it cheaper than all the european speed monsters. that way they’ll want to export them to their countries.

I think the difference is finesse. As a friend of mine said about his ‘Vette, it has the power to make up for what it lacks in precise cornering. He was referring to the weight of the engine effeting turn in.
HP is a big factor, but what you’re missing is that both the Lambo and Ferarri are mid engine. Look at the cars of F1, CART and Indy and compare their lap times to those of NASCAR and you’ll see what I mean.

I completely agree with you, the Corvette with it’s light body is lightning fast. Even my 98 Vette can keep up with a 911, and easily smoke a boxster. To say that a Vette or Shelby is not much in the world of sports cars is the most idiotic thing I’ve read this week.
Some of you keep talking about F1 and twin-turbos and true racing cars, in my opinion the question was about stock cars, street legal and ready to roll with no extras added on.

It takes more then top speed and horse power to be a true sports car.
American "sports cars" do not have the balance that even a lowly sports car of the Miata class.
As for what can out run what, an SHO will run down a 911.
My Miata can out run a 911 on the roads here in WV.
While the cars mentioned are impressive in their own right, they are trash on a true mountain road which is where a true sports car thrives.

wow Farrari whats that? I don’t know about you but wouldn’t you like to own a Ferrari? I would. Sticking a lot of HP is great but a Euro sports is more then that, they offer the wow factor like wow my 2006 E55 just spank a 2006 Shelby Cobra on a tire and I still had my ac on ac seats and messagers. American cars have there own way I don’t think a Super Enzo will lose to any car mention here and its stock from the factory. I too owned a American car 1993 5.0 Mustang it was fun but I grow out of it. I was planning on getting the new Z06 but when I went to the dealership I didn’t like the fit or finish of the interior it felt cheap and too plastic for a $70,ooo price tag. All you 911 killers I sure you race non turbos or GT2-3 you guys would of got rock.
