Should You Buy Bowling Shoes Or Just Rent Them

Tuesday, September 29th, 2009

Recently bowling as a sport has been gaining in popularity. More teams are forming around the country as people of all ages take up the sport of bowling. There are bowling alleys in almost every town and many people are bringing the entire family to the bowling alley to learn how to bowl.

Although bowling is a lot of fun, one part of bowling that many people don’t care for is community shoes. Most bowling alleys offer a special type of shoe for bowling called the bowling shoe. This is to protect the specially waxed floors in place to bowl successfully. The shoe itself isn’t the part many people find unnerving, it is the fact that the shoes are rented and shared. They are called community shoes because anyone can rent these shoes at the bowling alley for a small charge. Some bowling alleys try to give the image of sanitizing the shoe by spraying the shoe with deodorizing spray or disinfectant spray. This does little more than freshen the smell of the shoe for the next player.

If you are like a lot of people you may find renting the community bowling shoe undesirable. Some people have even complained of contracting athlete’s foot from the shoes although this is unlikely. There are other options available to you thanks to the latest interest in bowling. Sport clothing, accessory and shoe stores are now offering bowling shoes for sale. If you are an avid bowler this may be the best option for you.

When you have decided to purchase a pair of bowling shoes there are some things you should keep in mind. Looking at the tread and the grip of the shoe is important. Depending on the amount of grip you want you can pick among different amounts, but keep in mind the amount you are used to. The grip may affect your game so you might want to look at the shoes you have worn in the past to decide which one worked best for your game.

Other than grip, tread and comfort the only thing left to look for is your favorite style. There are more colors and styles available than ever before. You should easily find a pair of bowling shoes to fit your style.

If you bowl regularly or plan on joining a bowling league, you may want to purchase bowling shoes of your own. If you can stand the community bowling shoes, don’t go bowling very often or don’t mind spending the extra money you can simply rent bowling shoes from the bowling alley. Whichever way you choose to go it is important not to wear street shoes when bowling or you can cause damage to the floors.
Bowling shoes are made for use on the waxed specialty flooring that bowling alleys are famous for.

Tuesday, September 29th, 2009

When it comes to all the rage extreme sports in our time, it has to be BMX games. It is one of the toughest form of cycling, no wonder it is next to some of the other extreme sports like skateboarding and sport bike stunting. As for the bicycles, they are so designed to counter the extremity of this particular sport. Going to some of the details you will find that these bikes normally have two, 20-inch wheels. And these wheels when compared to those of the conventional bikes are about 6 to 7 inches smaller whatsoever.

The frame is so poised that it attains utmost stability and resistance to say the least. BMX bikes hold some incredible features like for example, unique systems that permit an unrestricted number of 360-degree revolutions of the steering wheel.

BMX race is basically sprint cycling over a racetrack. These tracks are not the usual ones, they are specially made that stretch over 300-400 meters. They are also accompanied with a chain of jumps and bumps with banked corners called “berms”. There are eight players at the most in the race where the riders compete over one lap.

With BMX Racing, you will never run short of excitement and thrill. What’s more its safety record is also good enough as regards cycling sports. Again, whatever the status of the competition race team riders must indulge in appropriate safety equipment. As goes for the fundamental requirements, you simply can’t do without a helmet, gloves, knee and not to mention elbow pads.

You must know that the format of BMX was resultant from motocross racing. These sprint races go well on the off-road single lap racetracks. The jumps and bumps plus banked and flat corners and of course a finish line in the dirt racecourse are the perfect ingredients for smashing excitement. So much so that BMX racing will now feature at the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing.

BMX Freestyle

BMX freestyle adds a dimension to BMX biking whatsoever. In this particular race, you will neither have a track or course laid nor will you find any riders to compete with. The things you will find are the ramps build in an assortment of configurations that demands tricks and stunts on part of the rider. Furthermore, a particular time is allotted for the rider.

It is to be mentioned that the panel of judges rates the performance of each of the riders respectively. A point system is taken into consideration. The individual riders given in their level best, to satisfy the judges and earn points. This sport is all the very challenging and exciting at one fell swoop. In fact, BMX freestyle is quite a popular sport.

BMX riding is truly fascinating.

Aaa and Parents Magazine Present 2007 Best Cars for Families

Tuesday, September 29th, 2009

The American Automobile Association (AAA) and Parents magazine has recently collaborated to determine the vehicles in various market segments to be included in the 2007 list of their Best Cars for Families. Now on its 5th consecutive year, AAA and Parents magazine aim to determine vehicle models (including sedans, economy cars, minivans, sport utility vehicles, and crossover SUVs) that fits the driving characteristics as well as driving needs of families.

AAA and Parents magazine conducted several test drives for more than 100 vehicle models and evaluated them based on various criteria including fuel economy, cargo and luggage space, and safety features like air bags and child safety seats. Moreover, AAA and Parents magazine also considered the crash test results conducted by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) and selected the vehicles that earned top ratings in the crash test.

Only 15 vehicle models in five major categories (three vehicles for each category) are included in AAA and Parents magazine’s 2007 list of Best Cars for Families. The complete list of the winners will be featured in the April issue of Parents magazine. In addition, brief description of each vehicle is also included as well as the reasons why the reviewers of AAA and Parents magazine included vehicle in the 2007 list of Best Cars for Families.

John Nielsen, Director of AAA Vehicle Acquisition and Consumer Information said:

“Safety, convenience, and lasting value are especially important to parents shopping for a family vehicle. The vehicles on this year’s list provide the whole package – comfort, practicality and performance with options for every family size.”

“We put the vehicles through real-life road tests that include everything from running errands to carpooling, to taking a family vacation. With many parents and children spending several hours per week in the car, it’s important that it’s a safe, happy place for everyone in it.” said Sally Lee, Editor-in-chief of Parents magazine.

For the first time, the Volkswagen Rabbit compact car with quality VW fan blades was included in the 2007 list of Best Cars for Families for the economy cars category. According to the reviewers, the VW Rabbit made it to the list because of “modern features including advanced frontal, side-impact, and side-curtain air bags standard, along with antilock brakes and stability control. The audio system has a jack for MP3 players and the handy hatchback makes for simpler loading.”

Meanwhile, here are the 15 winners of AAA and Parents magazine’s 2007 Best Cars for Families along with their respective categories. Sedans – Honda Accord, Mercury Milan, Toyota Camry; Crossovers – Dodge Caliber Ford Edge Toyota RAV4; SUVs – Chevy Tahoe, Honda CR-V, Hyundai Santa Fe; Minivans – Honda Odyssey, Hyundai Entourage, Toyota Sienna; Economy – Honda Civic, Mazda 3, Volkswagen Rabbit.
